Abstract :
Heritage areas are exposed to many changes and factors causing their urban deterioration. Many of them suffer from urban deterioration that negatively affects their many aspects; therefore, many countries sought urban conservation projects and used many different policies. However, they used a general policy to deal with the deteriorating heritage area as a whole and lacked linking every manifestation of urban deterioration to the most appropriate policy. Therefore, the main goal of the research is to determine the methods and conservation interventions that are most appropriate for manifestations of urban deterioration in an attempt to achieve the continuity of conserving these areas. The research used the descriptive analytical method and reviewed the most important literature related to the development of urban preservation charters, moving to the policies and methods used for urban conservation, and then presenting the appearances of urban deterioration in heritage areas, conducting open interviews and a questionnaire with (30) professional experts and executives in the field of heritage, and analyzing data using (SPSS), to reach the most important manifestations of urban deterioration that have the most negative impact on heritage areas and link them to the most appropriate policies for dealing with, from the point of view of experts, the conservation and sustainability of heritage areas. The most important results reached are identifying the methods and conservation interventions most appropriate for each manifestation of deterioration in heritage areas.
